Autumn Has Awakened

Interviewed by Savannah Tyler

As the leaves start to change and a cool autumn breeze begins to swirl away all thoughts of summer, Andrews University settles into fall. With the absence of summer comes the promise and reality of pumpkin spice lattes, warm sweaters, crunchy colorful leaves, nostalgia, holidays, festivals, football season, apple cider, rainy days, an aesthetic that has almost every person capturing its essence through any form of media, and most people’s favorite season. With fall almost upon us, Andrews University students were asked about their favorite autumn activities, drinks, movies, and foods.

“Going on walks and hiking and eating apple cider donuts with friends, and a new found love is the pumpkin cold foam chai, it is fire.”
Marcel Mattox (senior, social work)

“I like to go hiking when the trees have changed color and the leaves on the ground are nice and crunchy.”
Elizabeth Dovich (senior, communication)

“Going to get fun little fall drinks and treats! I love anything pumpkin and apple! I also love just going around campus as the leaves fall down around me. So beautiful!”
Lexie Dunham (junior, psychology)

“A pumpkin chai oat milk latte with a shot of espresso is one of my favorite fall drinks and the “Twilight” movie because it’s such a silly movie and it’s fun to watch it with friends!”
Nahzoni Haycock (junior, biophysics)

“Watching a movie and drinking hot chocolate or going to a haunted house or seeing sky lanterns.”
Jennifer Jean (senior, medical laboratory science)

“Looking at all the colored leaves.”
Imani Cousins (junior, art)

“Hayrides, corn mazes, carving pumpkins, my mom going all out with Halloween decor, wearing sweaters, drinking many chai lattes, enjoying cozy days, and stomping on crunchy leaves are all things I enjoy about fall!”
Ember Clark (sophomore, English education)

Anything that involve being outside with friends, and any event with a hayride and pumpkin painting, especially if there’s apple cider, makes my heart happy.
Lucille Borges (junior, speech pathology)

Whether you decide to go apple picking, visit a haunted house, eat every pumpkin spice related food you can find at Trader Joe’s, or just have a cozy day inside to read a good book or watch your favorite fall film, I hope you take this article as a sign to make a fall bucket list of things to do with friends or independently to truly take every chance you get to enjoy all of the splendors hidden in the months to come!
