Outstanding Dissertation Award

The School of Graduate Studies & Research awards students who have demonstrated exceptional research capabilities with the Outstanding Dissertation Award. The award was first given at the Summer 2011 Commencement and acknowledges exceptional work by doctoral students and encourages excellence in scholarship, research and writing. Students are nominated for the award by the chair or member of their dissertation committee. There are seven criteria for the award:

  1. Importance/impact/contribution of the dissertation
  2. Originality/creativity of the dissertation
  3. Quality of the scholarship
  4. Potential for publishing
  5. Quality of the writing
  6. Practical implications to the respective field of study
  7. Other appropriate qualities that denote excellence and distinguish the dissertation.
