Melissa Bolle

Bolle has been the catering manager for Dining Services, operated by Bon Appetit, for two years.

What are you involved with that allows you to change the world around you?

I play a small role in all of the wonderful events that the University puts on for our students while keeping the mindset that we are a ministry, no matter how small the task may be. My job includes planning, executing and ensuring that schedules are kept and followed. I strive to do everything with a smile and go the extra mile if needed.

I have been involved with the culinary arts for many, many years now. I truly believe that if God has given you the talent to share through food you can reach whomever. With this being said, I am very fortunate to be allowed to blossom in my position and spread my sunshine around.

While I do definitely consider my work a ministry, I am new to Seventh-day Adventism and have not had the chance to get my “feet wet” in too many other ministries. I do hope to someday work with prison ministries, the elderly and the sexually and domestically abused.

How did you get into this work/activity/project/etc.?

I was always “searching” for something. My dear friend Matthew Sulzer brought the light to me. God did the rest and brought my little family to Michigan and he continues to show me that this is where we are meant to be. I have always wanted to use my pain for good and use my talents to bless others. Honestly, I would describe my actions as “spreading sunshine."

How have you been changed by this?

Life’s hardships do not define you. They mold you. Remember we are clay and JESUS is the potter. People are people, they will not always make you happy but your walk with God is only between you and Him. My strength has grown stronger, my faith mighty and my eyes no longer blind.

Many in this community have changed my view on human nature in a good way. That has encouraged me to keep pushing on. I LOVE a lot of people here at Andrews University. I have students who work for me that have told me often how I have shown them the meaning of respect without fear. Praise God! No matter how small or big, I have been witness to the Holy Spirit at work. These are the moments that make your heart smile. The stories of praise are for our Father. I do what I can in hope that someone sees Christ in me. I am a servant and I will do what I can. I hope that by walking in that light when I can it will cause others to do the same. To think about their actions. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to serve.
