International Music Competition

The third annual International Music Competition at Andrews University begins
on Sunday, March 28, in the Howard Performing Arts Center on the campus of
Andrews University. This free event is open to the public. It begins at 4 p.m.
This yearâs focus area is voice and the winner will be decided by a panel of
external judges. Five finalists, including one from Andrews University, were
chosen from 25 applicants from around the world. These five competitors
represent some of the most prestigious schools in the country. The finalists
are: Mark Van Arsdale, Ireland, studying at the Indiana University Jacobs
School of Music; Brandon Cedel, USA, studying at The Curtis Institute of Music;
Ryan Clough, USA, studying at Andrews University; Mark Gardner, USA, The
Peabody Conservatory of Music; Catherine Gardner, Canada, studying at The Peabody
Conservatory of Music; and Marlene Meier, USA, studying at North Park
University.
The grand prize is $1,000 plus a solo performance with the Andrews University
Orchestra. Second through fifth place also receive cash prizes between $500 and
$100, respectively.
This annual competition features a different area each year: piano, strings,
voice, winds. The judges are external and the Andrews University Department of
Music is the sponsor and organizer of the competition
