Canto Dulcis

Julia Lindsay, Asta Skala LaBianca , and Linda Mack began singing vocal chamber music together as a part of the larger Michiana group Opus Nine. The female portion regrouped as Canto Dulcis (Latin for sweet singing) performing primarily early music a capella. Julia, soprano, is coordinator for vocal studies and freshman advisor in the Department of Music at Andrews University and directs its opera productions. She holds a Master of Music degree from Andrews University and was a post graduate student of Carol Smith at Indiana University, Bloomington. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Ms. Lindsay maintains an active solo career throughout the United States and in Europe. Asta's professional career bridges music and English. Holding degrees from Walla Walla College, New England Conservatory of Music, and Andrews University, she has worked as a church musician (both as vocal soloist and organist) , private studio teacher, classroom teacher, and performer (both in small ensembles and as soloist). She is a member of the faculty of the Department of English at Andrews University where she teaches writing and language-related classes. Linda holds Masters degrees in Music and Library Science. Since 1993 she has been Music Librarian at Andrews University and also continues an active performing career, primarily as an accompanist and church musician. Currently she is keyboardist and program annotator for the Andrews University Orchestras, directs the Andrews University Early Music Ensemble and is music director for St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Dowagiac, Michigan.
