Dolores Slikkers Passed Away

   Agenda | Posted on January 12, 2015

On Thursday, Dec. 18, Dolores Slikker, current board member and long-time Andrews supporter, was in a car accident in Holland and was rushed to the hospital, where she passed away.

Dolores was also an honorary degree recipient. In 2007, both Dolores and her husband, Leon, were awarded honorary Doctors of Law for their significant business accomplishments and their philanthropic endeavors. In 1969, the Slikkers, together with John Freeman, established Maranatha Volunteer International, a non-profit Christian organization that mobilizes volunteers to help in communities around the world.

The Slikkers family is well-established at Andrews; they have had family members involved on campus since the 1960s, and are well-known to many.

A Dolores Slikkers Memorial Fund has been set up at Holland Adventist Elementary School. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to this fund.

CARD SHOWER: Members of the Holland SDA Church have started a card shower for Leon Slikkers. Their goal is for Leon to receive 2000 Christmas or New Years cards--the number of birthday cards Dolores sent each year. If you were personally touched by Dolores' life in some way please put a message in the card stating in what way she effected your life. This is a surprise for Leon, so please keep it under wraps.

Cards can be sent to:

Leon Slikkers
A-5228 147th Ave.
Holland, MI 49423

Please remember Dolores’ family and friends as they mourn her loss.
