Learn About Joint Pain at Free Seminar

(ST. JOSEPH) – Community members are invited to attend a free physician speaker series event, “Why See a Rheumatologist for Joint Pain?,” presented by Amrit Anand, MD, MS, PT, of Lakeland Rheumatology. The seminar will take place on Tuesday, August 4, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Frederick S. Upton Education Center at Lakeland Medical Center, St. Joseph, located at 1234 Napier Avenue.

Dr. Anand will discuss how a rheumatologist uses a multidisciplinary approach to help improve the quality of life for patients struggling with joint pain caused by diseases such as arthritis, gout, lupus, osteoporosis, and tendonitis. Because joint pain can be due to an autoimmune process and is treatable, a rheumatological evaluation, especially when received early, can lead to better outcomes.

“Rheumatologists treat many rare diseases that are difficult to diagnose, so we often act as detectives by putting together the pieces of a complex puzzle of symptoms and lab tests,” said Dr. Anand. “Gathering the clues and helping patients is one of my favorite things about being a rheumatologist.”

Dr. Anand earned his medical degree at the Saba University School of Medicine, Netherlands-Antilles, completed his internal medicine residency at Michigan State University Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies, and completed a rheumatology fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He is board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Rheumatology.
