A Holistic Approach to Education

Since its founding in 1874, Andrews University has taken a holistic, three-tiered approach toward education: body, mind, spirit.

The motto "corpus, mens, spiritus" has always served as a guiding objective for the Seventh-day Adventist institution, but this fall the university has made a conscious commitment to improving the physical well-being of its students, faculty and staff.

"It came to the attention of the university that specifically the corpus piece has been neglected, or maybe not as much of a priority as some of the other areas," said Dominique Wakefield, the newly appointed director of University Health and Wellness.

On Sept. 23, the university's Health and Wellness Council gathered for its inaugural meeting and kicked off a health and wellness initiative.
