This year the Andrews University Department of Nursing welcomed a new chair and faculty member, Bea Ade-Oshifogun.

Ade-Oshifogun received her bachelor’s degree in nursing at the University of Ile-Ife in Nigeria in 1982. In 1996, she went on to obtain her master’s degree in nursing at Governors State University in Illinois, and in 2008, she completed her PhD in nursing science at the University of Illinois in Chicago.

She has taught at several universities across the globe, including Babcock University in Nigeria, Newbold College in England and Chicago State University. Before beginning at Andrews, she served as adjunct faculty at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois, where she taught online graduate classes in nursing informatics.

Ade-Oshifogun has also held several healthcare positions, such as clinical nurse educator, healthcare services reviewer, staff nurse and clinical director. She has also served as captain in the U.S. Army Reserves.

As the new chair, Ade-Oshifogun hopes to see the department flourish with an increased number of students, faculty and programs. Under her leadership, the department is currently working on adequately developing the Doctor of Nursing Practice program and the RN-BSN program option.

“My vision is to increase the online component of our program because it is a tool to reach the global community, which is a key vision of Andrews University,” she says. “I am trusting God for His provisions to develop a state-of-the-art department with improved facilities and equipment to better serve our students and community locally and globally,” said Ade-Oshifogun.

Ade-Oshifogun trusts that God has a plan for the Department of Nursing, and is honored to be an instrument in His hand to make that plan possible.
