Homecoming 2016 Gala Concert featuring Andrews University's Wind Symphony, Chorale, and Singers

The annual Gala Concert for the 2016 Homecoming Weekend features the Andrews University Wind Symphony under the direction of Alan Mitchell, and the Andrews University Singers and Chorale under the direction of Stephen Zork. The one hour and ten minute program will take place in the Howard Performing Arts Center beginning at 8:00 p.m. October 1, 2016.

The musical entertainment from the wind and vocal areas will include a wide range of moods from the festive to the reflective. Presentations from the Wind Symphony include Gavorkna Fanfare by Jack Stamp, Concerto in Bb for Two Trumpets by Antonio Vivaldi – featuring trumpet soloists Charles Steck & Jay Crouch, Serenity by Ola Gjeilo, and Fugue on Yankee Doodle by John Philip Sousa and arranged by Brion Schissel.

The choral offerings will include When I Hear Music by Michael Martin, America from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein, How Can I Keep From Singing arranged by Z. Randall Stroope, and Africa – the 1983 hit by TOTO arranged by Philip Lawson. The final number will be John Rutter’s arrangement of When the Saints Go Marching In – featuring Alan Mitchell on the trombone and clarinetist Gabe Halsey. Admission is free, and co-curricular credit is available.
