Concert to Benefit Haiti

Fundraising continues for long-term ministry in wake of Hurricane Matthew

On Saturday, Nov. 19, at 5 p.m., the Mission for Salvation & Health to Communities in Distress (MISCOD) will host a fundraising concert for Haiti in the Seminary Chapel. Journey Ministries, a popular Andrews University vocal ensemble, directed by Marguerite Samuel, will perform along with Carlon Nyack.

Henry Claude Antoine Adelson, Seminary student and founder of MISCOD, is passionate about raising money and resources for his home country of Haiti. He is spearheading this project in an attempt to aid his nation, which has been devastated by natural disasters such as Hurricane Matthew which destroyed much of the island and began a cholera epidemic in September.

Adelson is traveling to Haiti in December.

“It’s my responsibility to make sure everything goes according to plan,” said Adelson. “This project is different because we focus on rehabilitation, safety and the growth of the people and nation.”

Adelson, who was born and raised in Haiti, joined the Andrews University community in the summer of 2014.

“My passion to be a witness for Jesus in the midst of the underprivileged people, especially the orphans and the disabled from my home country Haiti, has remained strong, despite my physical distance from home,” he says.

The goal of the concert is to raise funds to equip volunteers with the supplies necessary to distribute to and serve people in the areas of Haiti that need it most.

While Adelson recognizes that many people and organizations are at work in Haiti already, he believes there is still more work to be done.

“We need major steps,” he explains. “We want to equip the country with a health network, a holistic ministry that caters to physicality, spirituality and mentality for the long-term, not just in the immediate.”
