MARCH 2: TOCANDO LA LUZ (TOUCH THE LIGHT) (72 min) 2015 in Spanish with Subtitles
In this intimate character-driven film, three blind women from Havana, Cuba confront their heartbreaks and hopes, and navigate their profound desires for personal independence. Tocando la Luz (Touch the Light) weaves three stories - all set in the blind community of Havana, Cuba - into a tale of personal independence. As Lis, Mily, and Margarita each face family problems and heartbreak, their dependence on others turns out to be a double-edged sword. From the music halls of Havana to a cinema club for the blind, their stories reveal both the pain and the joys of fighting for yourself. It is perhaps all the more important given the changes Cuba is undergoing today; in its rendering of what was the final years "Castro's Cuba", it is an important document of a unique and extraordinary society and its people.

APRIL 6: DEAF JAM 2011 (53 min)
ASL poetry changes Aneta Brodski's life. Poetry, friendship and respect transcend politics as Aneta finds herself in an unexpected collaboration. In Deaf Jam, Aneta Brodski seizes the day. She is a deaf teen introduced to American Sign Language (ASL) Poetry, who then boldly enters the spoken word slam scene. In a wondrous twist, Aneta, an Israeli immigrant living in the Queens section of New York City, eventually meets Tahani, a hearing Palestinian slam poet. The two women embark on a collaboration/performance duet - creating a new form of slam poetry that speaks to both the hearing and the Deaf.
"Poetry, friendship and respect transcend politics...Delightful and endearing, utilizing upbeat music and clever graphics, Deaf Jam immerses us in the richness and complexity of deaf culture and gives us a unique perspective into a world so vibrant, so diverse, it may forever change the way we see the non-hearing." Barbara Pokras, A.C.E. - Woodstock Film Festival.

MAY 4: COME UNTO ME: THE FACES OF TYREE GUYTON (30 min)
This film explores the deeply provocative work of environmentalist artist Tyree Guyton while chronicling his encounters with the grinding gears of Detroit's apparently benighted government.
Using a gritty pastiche of film clips and interviews refreshingly free of gratuitous emotion and richly enhanced by an eclectic soundtrack, filmmaker Nicole Cattell's tribute to Guyton's artistic determination captures the confusing splendor of his vision, all the more moving because of the city's demolition of much of what he has created.
Using her 30 minutes with admirable efficiency, Cattell's magnificent look at the polka-dot-painted houses, sidewalks and streets Guyton created in one of Detroit's worst neighborhoods will draw many viewers untrained in the ways of art into a world of great wonder and beauty.
