“The Compassionate Model Servant” is brought to us by the Andrews University Singers & Chorale under the direction of Stephen Zork, with special guest choirs: Journey, under the directon of  Marguerite Samuel, and the Girls of Mercy, under the direction of Josephine and Sinegugu Katenga.

The concert repertoire is dedicated to those whose lives have recently been affected by natural disasters, oppression, and indescribable harm from irrational people. A variety of featured works include folk hymns: “Invocation for Compassion” arr. by Craig Hella Johnson, “For Everyone Born, a Place at the Table” and “We Shall Overcome” both arr. by Tom Trenney; southern gospel songs “Unclouded Day” arr. by Shawn Kirchner, “I Go To The Rock” by Dottie Rambo, and “Cornerstone” also by Kirchner.

The centerpiece of the concert is a set of three commanding numbers that are reassuring and buoyant in spirit: “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” by Martin Luther arr. by Hans Leo Hassler, “Nun is das Heil” Cantata No. 50 by Johann Sebastian Bach, and “Lobet den Herrn, alle Heiden” Motet No. 6 also by J. S. Bach.

Two guest choirs will be featured: Journey, directed by Marguerite Samuel, and Girls of Mercy, directed by Josephine and Sinegugu Katenga. Both choirs are known for their philanthropic mission. The program concludes with two final compositions: “If Ye Love Me, Love One Another” by Philip Stopford, and the majestic setting of “How Great Thou Art” by Dan Forrest.

Admission is free – no tickets required. A free-will offering will be received for victims of the recent natural disasters.
