United Way Campaign Launches October 2

Campus Announcements | Posted on October 2, 2017

Dear Campus Community,

Just a few days ago the University had its inaugural Change Day—our recognition that we have a responsibility to ensure our community is better for having Andrews University in its midst. I was excited to see how many of our students and employees engaged in this day: cleaning up various venues, inside and out; running a career fair; painting a mural; finding numerous and targeted means of reaching out to say that we care. This is not the only engagement we have in our communities either. As a University, we have many other programs that run through academic departments and student organizations, targeted at responding to identified needs in Southwestern Michigan. We clearly embrace the desire that the Andrews story should make a positive difference in the stories of our communities.

However, as much as we do ourselves, individually and corporately, there is so much more to do.

For this reason, Andrews University is proud to once again join our friends in Southwest Michigan in supporting the work of United Way during this annual appeal. Some faculty, staff and students actively involve themselves in United Way-supported programs in the community. I thank them for their personal engagement with these projects. Not all of us can do that, but all of us can help through the campus campaign that will be rolling out over the next few days, and will include some nice incentives thanks to a few area businesses.

Our Andrews campaign launch day is Monday, October 2, and the campaign runs for four weeks; our campus goal is $22,000. This amount will join the many other contributions gathered throughout Berrien and Cass Counties. In 2016 alone, the United Way raised almost $3.2 million and served nearly 73,000 individuals through 52 programs. Many of these contributions directly touched the lives of our students, faculty and staff. Every contribution, however small, will help us create new stories of opportunity in our local community.

Thank you in advance for considering how you might actively participate in this campaign this year. In the meantime, if you would like to find out more about the amazing work that United Way does—fighting for the health, education and financial stability of every person in our community for 75 years, please visit their website.

Sincerely,

Andrea Luxton
President
