The Watchmen Perform Benefit Concert for Homeless

Community Announcements | Posted on October 19, 2017

On Friday, Oct. 27, at 7:30 p.m., The Watchmen and various other artists will perform a benefit concert titled “Honorable Treasures” at the Howard Performing Arts Center on the campus of Andrews University. The main purpose of the concert is to raise funds, and all proceeds from the tickets will go directly to homeless shelters in the area.

The Watchmen is a male Contemporary Christian a capella singing group that began in February 2017. The group was originally comprised of six members, but one of the lead vocalists, a first tenor, Joffre G. St. Hilaire, is currently serving as a student missionary in Peru. The other group members are Abel Siamubi (lead and tenor), Clavour Tucker (first tenor), Jephthah Ndlovu (baritone), Lionel Kanyowa (bass) and Norman Williams (lead and second tenor). Each member has a passion for a cappella gospel music and felt a conviction to come together to form this ministry.

The Watchmen’s name is inspired by Ezekiel 3:17 which says, “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me.”

Consequently, their mission is to “bring an urgent message to a cold world.” They recognize that this time in earth’s history is critical and that work like theirs is vital to giving a dying world hope from God. In fulfilling their mission, they have sung at numerous churches, organizational programs and graduation parties.

“Our hope and prayer is to acknowledge through big and small platforms the fact that God has called us to prepare a way for His soon coming. We will do so through singing at any platform presented before us to uplift the name of God, testifying about our personal experiences in our journey with God and ultimately calling people to true repentance in sharing divine thoughts with communities,” described Jephthah Ndlovu, public relations representative.

The concert theme is inspired by the Bible passage from Matthew 6:19–21 that talks about storing up treasures in heaven. It will hopefully encourage the attendees to use and develop their abilities and resources for doing God’s work in the world around them. The Watchmen formed this concert idea after ministering at the emergency homeless shelter in Benton Harbor in May of 2017. They will be putting this theme to practice as they use the proceeds from the conference in a tangible and relevant way in the local community.

The Watchmen will be joined by the following additional performers: Deliverance Mass Choir, Makarios, Carlon & Heidi, Connection, Kaome, Jade & Abel and LSF trio. Their hope is that the diversity of performers will “encourage the unity of the students and community as people of different ethnicities and races come together to fellowship and praise God.”

Admission to this event is $5 and tickets must be purchased online prior to the performance. There will be no tickets sold at the Howard Center the night of the performance. All proceeds from the tickets will go directly to homeless shelters. To purchase tickets, click here. For additional information, contact the Howard box office at 269-471-3560.
