Veterans Day Tribute

On Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017, Andrews University will hold a Veterans Day Tribute at 11:30 a.m. in the Howard Performing Arts Center. This program will be one of reflection and thankfulness toward the veterans who have and are making sacrifices for the United States.

The tribute will begin with a posting of the colors by the American Legion Post #284 and the VFW Post #9820 from South Bend, Indiana. Following a musical selection and poem, Washington Johnson II, assistant director for Adventist Chaplaincy Ministries, will speak.

Washington Johnson II is a chaplain in the United States Navy Reserve. He holds the rank of Commander and is currently assigned to Religious Support Unit 106/ Deputy Chaplain of the United States Coast Guard for Reserve Matters, Washington, D.C. Johnson is the son of a World War II veteran who served in the United States Army Air Corps. He is an alumnus of Oakwood University (Bachelor of Arts), the Andrews University Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity) and the Reformed Theological Seminary (Doctor of Ministry). He is married to Joyce Johnson, PhD; they have one son, Washington Johnson III, a student at Oakwood University.

The program will also include a slideshow presentation of veterans that have been or are connected with Andrews University. After this slideshow, small gifts of appreciation will be presented to each student veteran and veteran dependent.

If you are an alumnus or current student of Andrews University, you are invited to contribute to the slideshow presentation by submitting a photo of you or your veteran while in service.
