H.E.L.P. Spring 2020 begins at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, 2020, in Newbold Auditorium, Buller Hall!

The weekly values-based literacy program supports public school students in Benton Harbor.  Each week volunteers engage with grade 1–5 students as we work to help them improve their learning outcomes. Sessions are Fridays from 1–3:40 p.m. Undergraduate students can receive up to 15 co-curricular credits for their involvement each semester.

Our team of volunteers are placed in groups and each group assigned to a classroom where the team members build positive relationships with the children. This curriculum is designed to improve each elementary student's reading skills and deepen their love for learning. Volunteers serve every other Friday. Transportation and other classroom supplies are provided each week. Buses depart Andrews University at 1:30 p.m. This program provides participants with valuable experience working with young children who are eager to learn.  The time spent in the classrooms sharing values and strengthening literacy can change the trajectory of a life.

Volunteers must complete application forms which include a request for a background clearance prior to working in this program. Application forms will be provided. Please bring a government photo ID.
