Asylum seekers' children in SW Michigan

An estimated two dozen children separated from parents seeking asylum at America’s southern border have been placed in foster families in Southwest Michigan.

Dona Abbott, director of Bethany Christian Services Refugee and Immigration Services, said her organization has seen an uptick in the number of child placements in the state in recent months. Grand Rapids-based Bethany Christian Services, with offices in Benton Harbor and Paw Paw, is the primary social services organization handling such placements in Michigan.
