On October 18–20, 2018, the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary, in conjunction with the Biblical Research Institute and Adventist Theological Society, will host the “Transforming Worldview(s): Biblical Faithfulness in a Pluralistic Age” Conference. The gathering will explore the impact and importance of a biblical worldview in the lives of Seventh-day Adventists. Kevin J. Vanhoozer, a prominent evangelical theologian and author known for his dynamic presentations, is the keynote speaker. All are welcome to attend at no charge; free registration available here.

“Who we are and how we behave is in direct relationship to our worldview,” said Jiří Moskala, dean of the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary. “The biblical worldview needs to be clearly defined in order to shape our presuppositions and understanding of the world around us, which consists of our belief system, rituals, lifestyle and worship.”

The conference will address three vital questions: (1) What is a worldview? (2) What is the importance of worldview? and (3) What is the function of worldview in the lives of Seventh-day Adventists?

“All of us have a worldview, regardless of how we define it,” said Ante Jeroncic, Seminary professor of ethics and theology and lead conference organizer. “Our explicit or implicit answers to these fundamental questions direct not only our experience of Christianity and Adventism but also how we act in the world, determining our priorities.”

Conference participants will be challenged to articulate an Adventist worldview and its impact on specific issues.

“For instance,” said Jeroncic, “What is the Adventist worldview on creation, and how does that lead us to a conception of creation care? There is a relationship between worldview and ethics. We will explore how an Adventist worldview addresses questions of suffering, history and more.”

Ministry practitioners will also be challenged to consider the impact of worldview formation on their ministry and how worldview can be harnessed to address a culture that is largely at variance with a biblical worldview.

“There are many worldviews around us which need to be transformed according to the biblical worldview,” said Moskala. “We need to present in an attractive and faithful way the biblical story to catch the imagination of people and to transform their comprehensive conception or apprehension of the world.”
