SMSO Presents "Amazing Amadeus"

The Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra (SMSO) presents "Amazing Amadeus," Sunday, March 17, 2019, 4 p.m. at the Howard Performing Arts Center in Berrien Springs.

The concert features pieces for a chamber-sized orchestra highlighted by SMSO principal clarinetist, Georgiy Borisov, performing Mozart’s iconic "Clarinet Concerto." As Borisov says, it is “one of the most important works written for clarinet. It is most exciting to perform a piece written by a great composer and my challenge is to present it to the audience and make it as engaging as it is to me.” The SMSO continues its highlight of Mozart with "Symphony No. 29," a piece employing only strings, oboe and horn. Also being performed is Brahms’ "Serenade No. 2," which, interesting to note, was written without any part for violin. The result produces a richer and darker sound rarely heard by orchestra audiences.

The concert will also include a pre-concert conversation with Maestro Fountain at 3 p.m. and a post-concert reception in the lobby. Additionally, The Symphony League of Southwest Michigan is offering a special post-concert dinner at Tabor Hill Winery & Restaurant, 185 Mount Tabor Rd., Buchanan, MI. A Meet & Mingle time begins at 6:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Dinner cost is $50 per person ($25 tax deductible). Please contact the SMSO office 269-982-4030 for reservations before March 5, 2019.

More information and tickets are available by calling 269-982-4030 or by visiting the SMSO website at www.smso.org.
