Orthopedic Surgeons to Discuss Treatment for Joint Pain

(ST. JOSEPH)—Community members are invited to join board-certified orthopedic surgeons, Kenneth Edwards, MD, Nicholas Loafman, DO, and Daniel Sohn, MD, for a series of free educational seminars titled “Live Life...Keep Moving.” The first seminar will take place on Tuesday, April 23, at Lakeland at Meadowbrook, located at 2550 Meadowbrook Road in Benton Harbor. A second seminar will be held on Thursday, April 25, at The Supper Club, located at 1245 S. 11th Street in Niles. Both seminars will take place from 6–7 p.m.

During the seminar, Drs. Edwards, Loafman and Sohn will discuss new, less-invasive surgical techniques to treat worn out hips, knees and shoulder joints. Guests will learn how the latest advances in orthopedics are providing higher quality outcomes.

“Primary candidates for joint replacement are individuals with chronic joint pain from arthritis that interferes with daily activities, walking, exercise, leisure, recreation and work,” said Dr. Edwards. “People who experience joint pain often tolerate it far too long. The surgery aims to relieve pain, restore your independence and return you to work and other daily activities.”

Preregistration is encouraged; walk-ins are welcome. For more information, or to register, call 269-927-5361 or visit spectrumhealthlakeland.org/totaljoint.

Lakeland Rehabilitation to Host Sensory Summer Camp

(ST. JOSEPH)—Children ages three to 12 who have a diagnosis of autism, sensory processing disorder or cerebral palsy are invited to experience a fun and active group environment during the Spectrum Health Lakeland Sensory Camp. Led by licensed physical, speech and occupational therapists, activities are presented in a consistent routine and include sensory motor exercises, balance and coordination, obstacle courses, socialization opportunities, and gross motor tasks, among others.

“Through our work with pediatric patients, we recognized a need in our community for children with physical or behavioral issues that may prevent them from enrolling in a traditional summer camp to still be able to experience all of the joys this environment offers,” said physical therapist, Keri Pawielski, PT, Lakeland Rehabilitation.

Sensory Camp will be held on Mondays, June 17 to August 5, at Power in Motion Gymnastics, located at 3889 South M-139 in St. Joseph. Children ages three to six will meet from 3:30–4:30 p.m., and children ages seven to 12 will meet from 2–3:15 p.m. Cost of the camp is $120 per camper, due by the first day of camp. Sibling discounts are available. Space for the camp is limited. For more information or to register, call 269-428-2799.
