(BENTON HARBOR)—In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Spectrum Health Lakeland and Versiti™ Blood Center of Michigan have partnered to host a community blood drive as a way for Southwest Michigan residents to give back. The blood drive will take place on Friday, Jan. 22, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Consortium for Community Development, located at 175 West Main Street in Benton Harbor.

“In the spirit of service, and to celebrate Dr. King’s humanitarian impact, we are encouraging our local community members to take action and give back,” said Jerry Price, manager of diversity and inclusion, Spectrum Health Lakeland. “Donating blood is one tangible way we can support one another and ultimately save the lives of our friends and neighbors.”

Individuals aged 17 and older who weigh at least 112 pounds and are in good health and not experiencing symptoms of cold or flu may donate blood. Donors who are 16 years old may donate but must have parent/guardian permission. Photo ID and face masks are required to donate.

Appointments are needed to best manage social distancing. For more information, or to schedule an appointment, visit donate.michigan.versiti.org and click “search donation locations.”
