Death of Mary Elaine Holmes

Mary Elaine Holmes, 84, died Monday, March 1, 2021, at Loving Care Home in Berrien Springs.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 5, at Allred Funeral Home, Berrien Springs, with visitation one hour prior. Pastor John Glass of Pioneer Memorial Church will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Berrien Center. Memories may be shared online at www.allredfuneralhome.com.

Mary was born May 4, 1936, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of George D. and Anna L. (Brown) Lee. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Fine Art/Ad Design in June 1988 from the University of the District of Columbia in Washington, D.C., where she worked in the Advertising Design Workshop while attending school.

She moved to Berrien Springs in 1988, where she worked in Ad Make-up for The Journal Era until 1997. Mary worked for a short time for Interlink, Inc., in Berrien Springs, and in September of 1997 she began employment with The Herald Palladium in St. Joseph.

She volunteered as Program Coordinator for the Central County Senior Center in Berrien Springs, and she also helped at Neighbor to Neighbor. Mary earned her honors as a Master Guide, and she was very involved in the Pathfinder Club at All Nations Seventh-day Adventist Church in Berrien Springs, where she also initiated and directed the Drum Corp. She was a member of Pioneer Memorial Church on the campus of Andrews University.
