40 Years of Service: Carlene Johnson

   Employee Awards 2023 | Posted on March 5, 2023

It seems just like yesterday I had the privilege of writing the 35 years of service award tribute for Carlene. Now we are celebrating 40 years’ worth of service to Andrews University. She serves as the part-time administration assistant for the Farm and Vineyard. Also, during the COVID years she helped out Vice President Dave Faehner since he did not have an administrative assistant during this time frame.

She has served in many capacities across campus over her time at Andrews University. This is especially true after she retired some time ago. Everywhere she goes those she comes in contact with enjoy her pleasant nature and attention to detail.

To Carlene, age is but a number, and it is not a number I will be mentioning here. She and her husband Glenn keep active on campus since they live only a short distance off campus. Glenn continues to help with engineering labs while Carlene keeps the records for the Farm and Vineyard in good order. Both also volunteer at the Howard Performing Arts Center as ushers or whatever is needed. You will see them regularly there and if you do, stop and introduce yourself, they love to meet new people and catch up with those they haven’t seen in a while.

Since she has lived in the Berrien Springs area for more than 40 years, Carlene is another one of our local historians who have all kinds of information about Andrews in the 1980s and 1990s up until now. She is a wealth of knowledge and loves to discuss it with those who have an interest in such things. She and I have had several conversations when I have needed to gather information from that era.

Carlene and Glenn love to travel to see their family. They also love to entertain family and friends in their home. One of their grandchildren lives in the St. Louis area and they really enjoy getting away to see them as often as they can, especially with the addition of a couple of great-grandchildren!! Carlene is more than happy to share pictures and swap stories with you about all the grand-babies and grand-puppies that they have. It is a very enjoyable conversation, and it really is a highlight of her day.

Congratulations, Carlene, on 40 years of service. I have really appreciated all you do for us at the Farm and Vineyard. I am looking forward to writing your 45 years of service tribute!
