30 Years of Service: Steve Nash

   Employee Awards 2023 | Posted on March 5, 2023

Steve Nash is one of those individuals who has a long and storied history in and around Andrews University. He has lived in the Berrien Springs area for most of his life and is able to remember lots of small details about what was happening at Andrews in years gone by. Many of his family members still live in or near Berrien Springs. He was a student here at Andrews, he worked for Apple Valley when it was part of Andrews University, and he also served as financial assistant to the dean of the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary. Currently, he is serving as assistant vice president for Facilities Management. I have the pleasure of working with him and his four managers regarding facility issues on campus.

Steve has many interests and is involved in several things on and off campus. He has remodeled his own house and at least one of his rental houses. He loves to work on vehicles and has rebuilt many vehicles. Who knows, that may be why his son is now involved in an auto business of his own. Another hobby he dabbles with is working on and riding snowmobiles. He and I have had several conversations about snowmobiles and we both agree that the only way to ride them is to hold on and go fast.

The lineage for the position of assistant vice president for Facilities Management includes some very stellar individuals, Dave Wilbur, Dick Scott, Paul Elder, to name the most recent ones. Steve has continued this line of humble Christian men who do a wonderful job in this position. He is well known across campus and everyone feels comfortable when dealing with Steve on facility-type issues.

Steve was hired for his latest position just before COVID-19 turned the world upside down. He and his team worked tirelessly to prepare the campus to provide protection for students, faculty and staff, visitors, families and friends. He has always been a great example of how a leader should be, leading from the front and not being afraid to roll up his shirt sleeves and dig in, no matter what the job. He and his wife and the Plant Services manager and his wife took it upon themselves to finalize construction of the Advent Prayer Center so we were able to use it during that time.

Congratulations, Steve, on 30 years of service to Andrews University. I really appreciate all that you do for us!
