30 Years of Service: Katherine Koudele

   Employee Awards 2026 | Posted on March 2, 2026

Katherine Koudele’s career has ranged from active farming to academia. Her children were young and underfoot when Kathy shifted careers from a small-scale farmer to a full-time professor. She came home to Andrews, where she had earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees and where she was the first female employee at the Dairy. Those early Andrews experiences helped frame a passion for animals that would ultimately take her to Michigan State University for a PhD, before she returned to teach and grow a robust academic program.

Over the last 30 years, Kathy has built a highly competitive Animal Science and Pre-Veterinary Program. Most recently, she applied that same passion and expertise to founding the Agriculture Education Center, breathing life back into a facility that gives students hands-on experiences and serves as a destination for the local community.

As the chair of the Department of Sustainable Agriculture, Kathy—still deeply supported by her kids and her husband Ron—provides leadership for departmental programs and faculty while launching students into exciting new careers. She has been a steward and champion for Adventist agriculture and its home at Andrews University.

Thank you, Kathy, for 30 years of service to the College of Arts & Sciences and Andrews University.
