30 Years of Service: L. Dayle Birney
Crops Manager, Department of Sustainable Agriculture
Dayle Birney has faithfully served Andrews University for 30 years, and we celebrate this meaningful milestone with him. Throughout his career, he has served the Seventh-day Adventist Church with dedication, modeling a life of service and commitment.
Raised in a farming environment, Dayle spent his early years helping his uncles on their farm in Canada. He often shares stories from those long days in the fields, including one memorable time he fell asleep while working and woke up to find himself and the tractor in a swamp—thankfully managing to get out with little evidence left behind. He also recalls lighthearted pranks with his cousins that still make people laugh today.
At Andrews University, Dayle has served as crops manager for the Dairy, Farm and Vineyard, working diligently to improve crop efficiency and land use. He has also shared his agricultural knowledge in mission settings, helping village farms grow more productive crops to feed their communities. His work reflects his deep commitment to God, family and Christian education.
Dayle is known as a gifted storyteller and a great travel companion, often sharing recipes and conversations about food along the way. Dayle, thank you for your service. We truly appreciate all you do for Andrews University.
