Outside the Profession

The Center for Adventist Research is pleased to host the photo exhibition “Outside the Profession: Ukrainian Adventists Among Volunteers,” created by Ukrainian photographer and public figure Vladyslav Tupchienko.

Through Tupchienko’s lens, the exhibition presents individuals who stepped beyond the boundaries of their professions in order to serve their country during wartime. Among them are both Adventists and non-Adventists—IT specialists, physicians, students, and pensioners—united not by social status, but by a shared sense of responsibility.

Each portrait is accompanied by a brief biographical reflection, inviting viewers to encounter not only faces, but also stories of sacrifice, resilience, and conviction. Although shaped by the harsh realities of war, the exhibition ultimately bears witness to light: to human dignity, compassion, and the steadfast commitment of those who quietly sustain their nation.

As Vladyslav Tupchienko reflects:

“This project is also a testimony of our time—a testimony to how we lived, how we helped one another, and how we stood together. It is a historical lesson that must remain in memory forever: so that it is never repeated, and so that future generations will know that we endured in part because of these people—because of the light they carried.”
