The Early College Experience

Spend Your Summer With Andrews University!

Andrews University would like to extend an invitation for you to join us this summer for an exciting academic program. The  Early College Program offers rising high school seniors and new incoming freshman a unique college experience on our main campus in Berrien Springs, MI. Students will participate in one college course, enjoy value-added seminars and cultural tours as part of a comprehensive University package.

When?

July 30 –August 18, 2017.
Students will arrive on a Sunday to get moved into their rooms and take part in an orientation. Courses will begin on the morning of July 31 and run through the morning of Friday, August 18.

The landscape of education is quickly changing, and we understand students are looking for unique opportunities to enhance their academic journey. We want to share in your journey by offering an exciting way for you to study, have fun and make new friends, as you become a part of the Andrews University community. Here are the details you need to know.

Courses Offered

Each student will take one 3 credit hour college class. Students will receive an Andrews University transcript for completed courses. These courses are offered for college credit and we can’t guarantee that your local high school will offer dual enrollment credit. The following courses will be offered in the summer of 2017. Additional courses will be added in Early 2017.

World Civilizations

Intro to Psychology
 

Value Added Seminars

In addition to a college course, students will participate in one enrichment seminar of their choosing. The options include academic exploration topics like "Intro to STEM", leadership training and an ACT/SAT prep course that will feature the option to take the ACT on campus before you leave. Activities

In addition to receiving a nationally ranked educational experience, we also hope that you will have a great deal of fun. You will have the opportunity to participate in on campus sports and recreation, as well as enjoy the warm and beautiful beaches of Lake Michigan. We will take cultural trips to the museums of Chicago and the galleries and parks of Grand Rapids, in addition to experiencing all of the fun that southwestern Michigan and northern Indiana have to offer.

Admissions

Participants in the Early College Experience must be new incoming freshman or beginning their senior year in high school. All applicants must fill out and submit the online application plus submit a high school transcript and standardized test scores. 

  •     Minimum GPA: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  •     A college prep curriculum that Includes Math, English, History and Science with Labs
  •     ACT, SAT or PSAT Scores
    •     ACT Composite of 22 with all individual scores 20 or higher
    •     SAT composite of 1070 (Math & Verbal) individual scores of 500
    •     PSAT composite of 1140 (Math & Verbal) individual scores of 530
  •     Students taking Math courses may need an additional math placement exam

Any student who does not meet these requirements may still be admitted at the discretion of the program director and course instructor.

Some courses have limited enrollment and will be filled based on the date an application is received. If demand increases, additional sections of some courses may be offered.

Finances

The Andrews Early College Experience is a comprehensive package that is all-inclusive. The price reflects double occupancy in the residence hall, full meal plan, college course, seminar, activities and textbooks. There’s no catch to the price. You pay only one fee for the whole experience.
