STUDENTS: Important Changes in COVID-19 Protocols

   COVID-19 Updates | Posted on July 21, 2021

Dear students,

As of this week, Andrews University will resume most pre-COVID-19 operations. New guidelines and expectations are in place for those who are fully vaccinated or who have acquired immunity here and for unvaccinated here. Like always, we seek the health and safety of each person and our entire campus community.

Acquired Immunity  Please note that those who have tested positive for COVID-19 and completed isolation will be assumed to have acquired immunity and may follow the vaccinated guidelines. Even so, individuals who have acquired immunity due to a previous COVID-19 infection still stand to benefit from getting a COVID-19 vaccination.

Updated Website  You can find an overview of the new guidelines on our revised World Changers for a changing world website, which replaces all previous Andrews University communication and guidelines for COVID-19 mitigation.

Required Documentation  Before moving into campus housing or attending your first class (if you are a community student), you should be prepared to show proof of one of the following: 1) a negative COVID-19 test, 2) evidence of a past COVID-19 infection/acquired immunity, or 3) a COVID-19 vaccination.

Vaccination Clinics  We are planning on-campus vaccination clinics as the new school year begins for those who are not yet vaccinated but plan to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. If you are interested in receiving a COVID-19 vaccination at one of these clinics, please fill out this form (you’ll need your Andrews University ID#).

Reporting Vaccinations  If you have received but not yet recorded a COVID-19 vaccination, please do so immediately at this link as this will help the campus continue to make timely decisions.

* Please note that while the University continues to strongly encourage vaccinations, the choice to get vaccinated remains with the individual. It is inappropriate for any individual to challenge or harass another student or employee about her or his vaccination status.

Covenant of Care  The University expects that individuals, regardless of vaccination or acquired immunity status, will act on their commitment to the Andrews University Community Covenant of Care and will mask and distance as appropriate, following these and other safety guidelines without ongoing monitoring. Nevertheless, when it is confirmed that any member of the University community fails to follow the  protocols outlined here and in the Community Covenant of Care, appropriate action will take place.

A Responsive Plan  Please be aware that any significant changes or new risks with the COVID-19 situation across the United States and on our own campus will bring appropriate and timely changes in our Andrews University mitigation expectations. We will communicate those changes as needed.

If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact covid19@andrews.edu.

We look forward to moving carefully into this school year in some new but also familiar ways for which we have hoped, longed and prayed for over the last year. Thank you for your contributions and commitment as together we take these cautious and important steps forward for our Andrews University community.

With care,

Frances Faehner
Vice President for Campus & Student Life
