Transportation from Chicago Airports to Andrews

Dear students,

I hope your final weeks of the summer are going well, wherever you are right now and whatever your plans and activities.

As you prepare to come to Andrews University this fall semester, whether you’re returning to campus or coming to Andrews for the first time, I wanted to share some urgent information with you regarding transportation options if you fly into O’Hare or Midway airports in Chicago.

Unfortunately, airport bus service between Chicago and South Bend airports is suspended due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.

However, there are some additional options available that don’t rely on airport buses from Chicago. You can find some overall information on preparing for this school year at this link to FAQs for international students.

That page includes the following information on whether and how Andrews University provides transportation to or from local and regional airports and bus stations. Let me share those details here, as well:

Please note that the Transportation office can arrange a pickup at the South Bend International Airport but not at Chicago area airports. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there is currently no express airport bus service from the Chicago airports to the South Bend International Airport, but there are other options available for Chicago O'Hare or Chicago Midway airports. Look for the "How do I get from a Chicago airport to South Bend, Indiana?" in the Transportation Services column found at this link. For more information about Andrews University transportation services and to arrange a South Bend International Airport pickup, and the associated fees, please contact the Transportation office directly by going here.

Additionally, we are exploring an option that may provide once-a-day transportation from Chicago airports the week before New Student Orientation if you’re a new student or the week before Registration and the first day of classes if you’re a returning student. If this option is of interest to you (the charge would be $75 one-way to the Andrews University campus), please fill out and submit the survey at this link no later than Aug. 13, 2021.

If we learn that five or more students per day will need these transportation options to the Andrews University campus on a specific date, a van or bus will be available at 6 p.m. Central Daylight Time (Andrews University is in the Eastern Daylight Time zone) on the dates of Thursday, Aug. 19, Friday, Aug. 20, and Sunday, Aug. 22, as well as Thursday, Aug. 26, Friday, Aug. 27, and Sunday, Aug. 29.

We will notify interested students within one week prior to your arrival time to confirm whether or not we are able to provide this transportation service on the day of your travel (we will also confirm pick-up locations at your specific airport as appropriate).

We’re sorry if this transportation service may not be possible based on the specific day or time you travel but will let you know if that’s the case so you can make alternate arrangements. Again, we’ll only be able to offer this service if at least five students are interested in transportation from the Chicago airport on a particular day.

Please request a pick-up by filling out this form if you are traveling to the South Bend International Airport and need transportation to campus. Note there are no South Bend airport pick-up options available on Sabbath/Saturday.

I hope the information contained in this letter is helpful as you plan your travels to the Andrews University campus for fall semester.

Blessings and success on the steps you’ll be taking to get ready for this new school year, and please let us know if you have additional questions for our International Student Services team.

Cordially,

Christian Stuart
