Independence Day

Independence Day is the national day of Moldova commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence from the Soviet Union on August 27, 1991.
Moldova officially the Republic of Moldova is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe located between Romania to the west and Ukraine to the north, east, and south.

Moldova declared itself an independent state with the same boundaries as the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic in 1991 as part of the dissolution of the Soviet Union. On July 29, 1994, the new constitution of Moldova was adopted. A strip of Moldova's internationally recognized territory on the east bank of the river Dniester has been under the de facto control of the breakaway government of Transnistria since 1990. According to the 2004 Moldovan Census, 3,383,332 people lived in the areas controlled by the central government of Moldova.

Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the relative weight of the service sector in the economy of Moldova started to grow and began to dominate the GDP (now about 63.5%), as a result of decrease in industry and agriculture. However, Moldova remains the poorest country in Europe. The official language of Moldova is Romanian, a Romance language related to Italian, French, Catalan, Spanish, and Portuguese.
