Community Gardening

Let's grow!

The youth will grow and manage a garden to provide fresh food to needy families in the area. Leaders will work directly with the youth who will be tending and keeping the garden. As they harvest the produce, they will distribute their goods to selected families and homes and see firsthand what it is like to bless others with their labor.

Gardening must follow a certain progression that includes cultivation, planting, tending, feeding and harvesting. Each time the youth come to work in the garden, the leader can prepare a brief spiritual lesson that directly corresponds to that phase of gardening. It will also give the youth the opportunity to see the fruits of patience and toil, as well as develop their green thumb. Gardening can teach kids about healthy eating, saving money and investing, self-reliance and flexibility.
