Setup Andrews Gmail on Your Computer

IMPORTANT:  Unless you specifically need to use an email program on your computer, it is recommended that you use a web browser to take advantage of all the features provided by your Andrews Gmail account.
Outlook 2013 or higher
  1. Enable IMAP in Gmail
  2. Open Outlook
  3. Go to File > Add Account
  4. Select Manually configure server settings or additional server types
  5. Select POP or IMAP
  6. Settings:
    • Your Name:  Enter your name
    • Email Address: Enter your Andrews email address
    • Account Type: Select IMAP
    • Incoming mail server: imap.gmail.com
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com
    • User Name: Enter your Andrews email address
    • Password: Enter your Andrews password
  7. Select More Settings
  8. Select Advanced tab.
    • Incoming server port must be 993, and must use SSL encryption
    • Outgoing server can use 465, and must use SSL encryption
  9. Select Outgoing Server tab
    • Select My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication . The radio
    • Select Use same settings as my incoming mail server
    • Select OK when finished
  10. Select Test Connection to test IMAP configuration
  11. Select Next
  12. Select Close
Outlook 2010
  1. Enable IMAP in Gmail
  2. Open Outlook 2013
  3. Go to File > Add Account
  4. Select Manually configure server settings or additional server types
  5. Select Internet Email
  6. Settings:
    • Your Name:  Enter your name
    • Email Address: Enter your Andrews email address
    • Account Type: Select IMAP
    • Incoming mail server: imap.gmail.com
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com
    • User Name: Enter your Andrews email address
    • Password: Enter your Andrews password
  7. Select More Settings
  8. Select Advanced tab.
    • Incoming server port must be 993, and must use SSL encryption
    • Outgoing server can use 465, and must use SSL encryption
  9. Select Outgoing Server tab
    • Select My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication . The radio
    • Select Use same settings as my incoming mail server
    • Select OK when finished
  10. Select Test Connection to test IMAP configuration
  11. Select Next
  12. Select Close
MacMail 7 or higher
  1. Enable IMAP in Gmail
  2. Select Mail > Preferences....
  3. Select the Accounts tab
  4. Select the + to add a new account.
  5. Enter the following information:
    • Full Name: your name
    • Email Address: your Andrews email address
    • Password: your Andrews password
    • Uncheck Automatically set up account
  6. Click Create
  7. Enter the following information:
    • Account Type: IMAP
    • Incoming Mail Server: imap.gmail.com
    • User Name: your Andrews email address
    • Password: your Andrews password
  8. Click Continue
  9. Enter the following information:
    • Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.gmail.com
    • Select Use Authentication
    • User Name: your Andrews email address
    • Password: your Andrews password
  10. Select Continue
  11. Review the account summary then select Create
Mozilla Thunderbird
  1. Enable IMAP in Gmail
  2. From the Settings menu, select Options  >  Account Settings
  3. Select Account Action  >   Add Mail Account...
  4. Enter the following information:
    • Your Name: your name
    • Email Address: your Andrews email address
    • Password: your Andrews password
  5. Select Continue. Thunderbird will automatically find the server settings.
  6. Select Done

For other email programs, use the recommended settings below to connect to your AU Gmail account:

Incoming Server (IMAP) imap.gmail.com
Outgoing Server (SMTP) smtp.gmail.com
Incoming Port (IMAP) 993 (SSL)
Outgoing Port (SMTP) 465 (SSL)
