Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

Q: Can I make changes to the evaluation after I have submitted it?
A: Once your rating is submitted, you will not be able to make changes. Please contact Employment for assistance.

Job Descriptions

Q: What job description was loaded into NEOED?
A: The job description provided when the position was last posted on the AU Jobs site.

Q: I have more than one job paid by AU, why do I only see one job description?
A: NEOED only associates employees with one job; this will be your primary job in Banner.

Q: How do I/my supervisor update my job description?
A: Over the summer, AU will launch the ability to manage job descriptions in NEOED, complete with approvals. This can be done at any time, not just when a job is posted or during the review cycle.

Multiple Jobs

Q: I have more than one job paid by AU, why do I only show in one department with one position and one direct manager?
A: NEOED on associates employees with one job; this will be your primary job in Banner.

Q: Perform doesn’t show my additional managers, but I know that’s possible. Why?
A: Because additional managers can only interact with performance evaluations (there’s no functionality available to them in the rest of NEOED), AU only loads additional managers for regular positions. You will not see additional managers for student, contract, temporary, or "access only" positions.

Q: I have multiple regular positions. What is the expectation for performance evaluations?
A: In NEOED, both the direct manager and any additional managers can interact with all evaluations.

  • The Direct Manager (the manager of the primary job) should complete the “main” evaluation based on the position they supervise. If the Direct Manager is the supervisor for other regular positions, all may be evaluated on the “main” evaluation.
  • If the employee has a classification of part-time or higher (75% or above), HR will generate additional evaluations for each regular job(s) with a distinct additional supervisor. These evaluations with have the position code and title in the name of the evaluation.
  • If the employee has a classification of less than part-time, HR will not automatically generate additional evaluation for other regular jobs. However, the additional manager may request one.

Hierarchy/Org Chart

Q: My manager’s manager doesn’t make sense. Why is my next level supervisor someone different?
A: Most likely, your supervisor has more than one job and your reporting line is through a secondary job. Because NEOED only associates an employee with one position/department/direct manager this may mean the next level up isn’t correct because it’s reflecting your supervisor’s primary position.

Q: My direct reports list doesn’t include everyone who I supervise. Why are people missing?
A: Most likely, your supervisee has more than one job and you supervise one of their secondary positions. Because NEOED only associates an employee with one position/department/direct manager this may mean that your direct reports list isn’t complete because you don’t supervise the primary job.

Q: NEOED has an Org Chart, but it’s wrong! Why are reporting lines wrong? Why are department groupings inaccurate?
A: NEOED only associates an employee with one position/department/direct manager. The position in NEOED will always be the employee’s primary job in Banner. Individuals with multiple positions have divert reporting lines in interesting ways. Instead of thinking about the NEOED Org Chart as reflecting how AU is organized, think of the NEOED Org Chart as representing how NEOED will reflect the interaction between direct reports, managers, and the manager’s manager.

Journal Entries

Q: What is a journal entry?
A: A journal entry is tool that can be used to record employee’s performance activities and any relevant information related to their job, tasks, and assignments.

Q: Are journal entries for employees or managers?
Both employees and managers can use journal entries.

Q: How do I link something in my journal entry to a competency or a goal?
A: Type the @ symbol to get a list of competencies and goals from your last evaluation.

Q: Who can see my journal entry?
A: A journal entry can be kept private or shared with the supervisor  or the next level supervisor.

Q: Can I change the privacy setting for my journal entry?
A: Yes, a journal entry can be made private if previously shared, or shared at any time.

Q: What might I want to use a private journal entry for?
A: An employee may want to create a contemporaneous record of a situation that occurred, either with a customer or a supervisor. A manager may want to create a contemporaneous record to capture a disciplinary situation.

Note: journal entries can be emailed to journals@neoed.com

  • You must email from your Andrews email account
  • The subject line must only have the name of the employee the entry is for
  • The name must match the first and last name as displayed in NEOED
  • If the name does not match a name in NEOED, this email entry will be in the Pending status tab of your Journal Hub in Perform, where you will be able to assign it to the appropriate person
