Guidelines/Expections

Writing Assistant: provides structured examples to use when completing evaluations, helping you select the right wording and tone for evaluating someone's performance. If you’re unsure what to write in a rating section, the Writing Assistant offers ready-to-use phrases that you can edit. This ensures consistent, structured language, enabling employees and supervisors to deliver clearer and fairer feedback. Employees can also write their own comments without using the Writing Assistant, but they should ensure their tone/words are appropriate for the selected rating scale number.

Terminology

  • Manager: In NEOED, the supervisor is labeled Manager. This will be the supervisor of the primary job in Banner.
  • Manager’s Manager: In NEOED, the next level supervisor is called the Manager’s Manager. This will be the supervisor of the supervisor’s primary job in Banner.
  • Direct Reports: In NEOED, the Direct Reports are all employees directly reporting to the Manager. This will only reflect those reporting to the supervisor for their primary job in Banner.

Survey Recipients: supervisor should first meet with the employee being evaluated and dialogue with them to establish the colleagues that will participate in the evaluation through the survey process. The colleagues should be individuals that the supervisor and employee both agree can provide objective feedback on the employee’s performance during the past year. For purposes of the evaluation process, a colleague is someone that works regularly with the evaluated employee at approximately the same level but does not report to the evaluated employee. The supervisor conducting the evaluation should ask to make sure that these colleagues are willing to participate in the evaluation.

Survey Confidentiality: for supervisors, when lauching a survey, answer No to question "Make survey results visible..." and answer Yes to question "Hide respondents' identities".
